My father was a sharecropper,Pharmacy
My father was a sharecropper,
then a refinery lablorer. Had it not been for an institution
such as the University of Houston, i most likely would
have spent my life working in
the plant as did my father. The cosmopolitan, multi- national nature of the university gave me insight &

experience dealing with a variety of cultures which hasserved me well in my profession.

Question
The University of Houston has been a dreamQuite BrightMath
The University of Houston has been a dream come true for me. My father attended the University and it was his dream that I do the same, although he left my options up to me.

But I decided to be a Cougar because it was close enough to home to drive back and forth if I wanted to, and because I knew I could get a quality education. Also I realized that my education would be taking place in one of the best job markets around.

Question
The University of Houston gave me the foundationBusiness - Management and Administration
The University of Houston gave me the foundation and tools to successfully accomplish my career objectives to date. The Melcher College of Business (Information Sciences) places an emphasis on knowledge and understanding of business processes, computer and logical concepts, management, and interpersonal & communication skills. In the course of my career, I can safely say that those skills have had more to do with my career advancement than the technical (programming, etc.) skills. As an IT manager responsible for recruiting and hiring, I find that candidates with strong technical skills are easy to find but often lack strong business and communication skills. I place a premium on cadidates who bring a good balance of both skills (technical & non-technical) to the table.

Another benefit of having attended the University of Houston was the exposure to a very diverse student body. I was a traditional (full-time, on-campus) undergraduate student. Being able to attend classes with working students not only gave me contacts to people already out in the business community but it also gave me insight into what things were really like in the "real world."To any prospective college students (especially those in the state of Texas), I strongly recommend that you consider the University of Houston. It really is one of the best kept secrets in the nation! Go Coogs!!!
